How to Evaluate Funder Fit Before You Apply

Score every funder on focus area, geography, award size, eligibility, and openness to new grantees. If two or more are weak, skip it. Fit is the strongest predictor of success.

The five-point fit test
- Focus area: Do they fund your cause specifically?
- Geography: Do they give where you operate?
- Award size: Is your ask inside their normal range?
- Eligibility: Do you meet every stated requirement?
- Openness: Do they accept unsolicited proposals?
Score each 0–2. Below 7 out of 10? Probably not worth it.
